The Abacus: the first Computer

The abacus was used as a mathematical model for early electronic computers and so technically it was "the first handheld".

Its Mandarin name is "Suen Pan" also known as "calculating plate". It was invented around 1600 AD in China, however the inventor remains unknown. The Japanese also had a similar version of the abacus that they called "soroban": this was a more elegant version of the Chinese abacus.

During the Medieval period, the West picked up on the abacus. The Russian's abacus is in a horizontal direction while the Chinese and the Japanese's abacus is in a vertical direction: this was due to the fact that the Chinese and Japanese wrote downwards, while the West wrote across.

Why Tune up your Computer???

  • Dust clogs the vents behind your computer, which causes your CPU to heat up—and heat is the biggest cause of component failure in computers. Regular tune ups could save you costly repair fees down the road.

  • It does not take very long for your brand new computer to get cluttered with JUNK.  If your computer is not brand new, you may already be frustrated by the amount of junk that has built up!

  • This computer junk comes in the form of temporary internet files, temporary files, cookies, and extra software that you did not need or even know was installed on your system.

  • Computer Junk can also be automatic downloads and updates to software that you have but may not be using.
